Your Quick Guide to Curtain Sizes
We know measurements can sometimes feel a bit confusing, but finding the perfect fit for your window is actually beautifully simple! Just remember: curtain sizes are always shown as Width × Drop.

(Just a quick note: The measurements below are for each individual panel, but our ready-made curtains always arrive packed as a pair!)

Door Curtains
(Perfect for keeping those chilly draughts out! Door curtains are sold as single panels.)
- 46" Width (approx. 116cm) × 84" (210cm) drop
- 66" Width (approx. 168cm) × 84" (210cm) drop
Voile Panels
(Brilliant for daytime privacy while letting the light in. Voiles are usually sold as single panels, and widths can vary slightly by design.)
- 53"–58" Width (approx. 132–145cm) — Available in 48" (122cm), 54" (137cm), 72" (183cm), and 90" (229cm) drops.
Our Smart Measuring Tips
- Always measure the full width of your curtain pole or track (not the window glass!).
- For a beautifully full, gathered look, choose a pair of curtains with a combined width that is about 1.5 to 2 times the width of your pole.
- The 'drop' is simply measured from the top of the heading (or the inside of the eyelet) right down to where you want the curtain to finish.

Your Guide to Choosing the Perfect Curtains
Freshening up a room with new curtains is one of the quickest, most satisfying ways to transform your home. But with so many headings, linings, and sizes to choose from, knowing where to start can feel a little daunting!
At Ideal Textiles, we believe buying curtains should be exciting, not a maths test. This simple guide will walk you through exactly what you need to know to choose with complete confidence, so you can enjoy a beautifully dressed window every single day.
✨ Step 1: Pick Your Heading Style
The "heading" is simply the top part of the curtain. It completely changes how the fabric hangs and how it attaches to your pole or track.
- Eyelet: Modern and wonderfully fuss-free. Large metal rings simply slide straight onto your curtain pole, creating wide, smooth, even folds. Perfect for a quick, contemporary update!
- Pencil Pleat: Classic, timeless, and brilliantly versatile. Clever adjustable drawstrings let you pull the fabric to your perfect width. They look lovely and traditional, and can be hung on either a track or a pole with rings.
- Pinch Pleat: Smart and beautifully tailored. The neat, permanently sewn-in pleats give a polished, luxurious finish that is absolutely perfect for formal living rooms or elegant bedrooms.
- Tab Top / Slot Top: Casual and wonderfully relaxed. Fabric loops (or a sewn-in channel) slide directly onto the pole. This style is fantastic for lightweight fabrics and airy voiles.
🧵 Step 2: Choose Your Fabric & Lining
The Fabric Weight
- Lightweight (Voiles & Sheers): Beautifully breezy. They give you daytime privacy while keeping your room feeling airy and flooded with natural light.
- Midweight (Cottons & Blends): The ultimate everyday hero! They balance gorgeous style with practical, fuss-free care that suits busy family life perfectly.
- Heavyweight (Velvet & Chenille): For the ultimate cosy night in. They feel incredibly indulgent, drape beautifully, and are fantastic at keeping the draughts out.
The Clever Linings
- Blackout: The secret to Sunday lie-ins and midday movie marathons! It completely blocks the light from passing through the fabric and adds a lovely, thick body to the curtain.
- Thermal: The smart choice for your energy bills. Thermal linings help reduce chilly draughts in the winter and keep rooms comfortably cool in the summer.
- Standard Lined: Protects your main fabric from sun fading, helps the curtain drape neatly, and beautifully softens the light coming into the room.
📏 Step 3: Getting the Size Just Right
Ready-Made vs. Made-to-Measure: Our Ready-Made curtains are fantastic value, quick to hang, and come in all standard UK sizes. If you have tricky bay windows or want a truly bespoke, designer finish, our Made
